One: None
This is a very common situation found in small businesses. Maybe because they think they can save some money, they postpone the attention they should give to their information systems.
Until the day of trouble comes. As they are not prepared for such an event, they call the first guy or company found on the phone book.
They live at the mercy of whomever provides them with service and pay hefty for the repairs.
Very often the same problem appears again. Or a new, unknown one, shows up, probably as a sequel from the previous fixing.
The customer always loses with this strategy because, whether he likes it or not, his information systems demand attention, and it has a cost associated.
Two: The in house computer wizard
There is always somebody working for the company who knows about computers and has some ideas of networking. That’s fine.
However, this guy is not really prepared to take the job, because his duties are different. He gradually messes up everything. As far as this is not an official assignment, there is no professional approach to the job, there are no records or maps of the network layout, devices, critical backups, passwords, etc.
Additionally, he gets sidetracked from his main responsibilities.
When he leaves the company, he takes all that information with him.
Sounds crazy but this is the way it is in many businesses.
